Being an analyst in a London-based blue chip investment bank taught me not to wear Doc Martens to work. It also taught me the importance of defensible, long-term thinking, how to operate in diverse cultures and to consider peoples’ time as precious.
Leading org-wide culture change programmes in South Africa and Europe for 20 years showed me that change is hard but if we are deliberate, and make change happen at a pace that suits peoples’ contexts, then change can happen and be sustained.
Adopting an older child and experiencing 15 months of disability due to injury helped me discover that the unexpected will happen, and we can find ways to live congruently in tough circumstances.
I believe there is peace in figuring out what you think, knowing what matters to you, and making choices that align to your values and consequent priorities.
